What are the audience demographics on my site?
According to Alexa, the visitors to my site are:
Audience Snapshot
Based on internet averages, heidiallen.id.au is visited more frequently by females who are in the age range 35-44, have children, are graduate school educated and browse this site from home.
Go figure, and yet the majority of my work comes from a very different demographic (men in the 40-55 age group).

My top most high impact search query?
Google Profile Heidi Allen
None of the above I would have predicted, goes to show stats are more reliable than gut feel and your readers may not be who you think.

or it could show that Alexa demographic stats are worthless …

I’ve never understood how anyone could ever have relied on Alexa stats for anything useful. They’re based on toolbar visitors and visits tied to their irrelevant network. Do you know anyone who ever installed the Alexa toolbar after 1997?

Hi David – you’re right Alexa stats are debated, I find it useful to compare sites, and some companies do use them, for example check out hubspot – if you use one of their ‘grader’ sites – such as website grader, they also include Alexa ranking. I did a (very quick) google search on Alexa and found this article that says Alexa is a subsidiary of Amazon. I didn’t know that!
